Yaqub Ebn Layth Saffari Shahabad Yaqub Ebn Layth was the founder of the Saffarid Dynasty whose center was in Sistan. This popular hero valiantly challenged the powerful Arab Caliphate, and expanded his rule across Fars as far as Khuzistan where he died at Jondi-shapur in A.D. 879. His impressive tomb stands on the edge of Shahabad village and is being restored. Its tall, faceted dome resembles hard cones of white sugar sold in grocery stores, and is often referred to as a sugar-loaf dome. |
