The English language "Radio Tehran" was established in the pre-Islamic revolution era, primarily to render services to foreign nationals residing in Iran.

Atter the victory of the Islamic revolution in Iran , this radio was extended to form the "External Service" giving coverage to most of the English speaking nations across the world.
